Abstract:

On-farm experiments were conducted in the Province of Iloilo, Philippines to identify a nutrient management approach that could adequately meet the nutrient needs of rice crop. The experiment assessed soil nutrient supplying capacity using routine soil analyses and the nutrient omission plot technique. The relationships between grain yield, nutrient uptake and soil test values were examined and established. Soil and plant-based nutrient management recommendations for the wet and dry seasons were formulated and evaluated. The total organic C, extractable Olsen P and 1 M ammonium acetate K were not highly correlated with grain yield and plant N, P and K accumulation in N,P and K omission plots. Grain yield was highly related to the plant nutrient accumulations in nutrient omission plots.
