Barangay Camandag is a farflung barrio, part of the municipality of Leon. It is one of the coldest parts of Iloilo situated in the Northwestern part of Leon, 28 kilometers away from the town and eight kilometers away from Bucari, the summer capital of Iloilo. Barangay Camandag has been geographically blessed with natural water falls such as Imoy, Combong and Nabuduan waterfalls situated approximately 200 kilometers from the barangay proper. This study is a discussion and analysis of the cultural-historical milestone in the history of Barangay Camandag, Leon, Iloilo, from around 1910 to the present. For ease of organization and other data-gathering concerns, the milestones are organized under certain key periods in the history of the local. Each period is given a cultural-historical analysis using Lloyd Kwasts' culture framework to make sense of these milestones in the light of the collective and subjective experiences of those who have been figured in this investigation. This study employed the historical method of research. Historical research, according to Fraenkel and Wallen (1994), is the systematic collection and evaluation of data to describe, explain, and thereby understand actions or events that occurred sometime in the past. The investigator presents an honest opinion regarding the events, observations, and interviews in support of the data investigated. Using qualitative study, the researcher presents activities in the actual setting in which they occur and that human behavior is vastly influenced by the setting in which behavior takes place. Qualitative data are collected in the form of words or pictures rather than of figures. This type of research emphasizes verbal descriptions and explanations of human behavior and practices in an attempt to understand how the units or members of the study population experience or explain their own world. To gather information, the researcher made use of one or a combination of the following techniques: participant observation, key informant interview, focus group discussion, direct observation, and in-depth analysis of a single case. Lastly, this study used the narrative inquiry model to cover meanings people assigned to their experience. (Polkinghorne, 1991), (Bogdan and Biklen, 1992). A narrative inquiry model is a way of understanding experience. It is a collaboration between researchers and participants, over time, in a place or series of places, and in social interaction with their milieu; An inquirer enters this matrix in the midst and progress in the same way, concluding the inquiry, still in the midst of living and telling, reliving and setting the stories that make up peoples' lives both individual and social. Simply stated, a narrative inquiry is stories lived and told (Clandinin and Connely, 1999). The result of this study may be beneficial to the entire people of Barangay Camandag which may enable them to grasp significant knowledge of their past. By the setting of the record of historical milestones and reflecting the significant aspects for understanding their unique culture, the people of Barangay Camandag may be able to fully appreciate and understand their present situations.
