Anti-inflammatory assessment of Basella Alba stem ethanolic extract in Albino mice

Abstract:

This study aim to assess the effect of Basella alba stem ethanolic extract at different concentrations in inflammatory response of albino mice. The results showed that the average increse in the paw size of mice for treatments 1,2,3 and 4 were 2.44 mm, 6.67 mm, 1.33 mm and 12.56 mm respectively. For eosinophils, the average increase for treatments 1,2,3 and 4 were 0,0.11,0 and 0.45 respectively. For neurophils, the average increase for treatments 1,2,3 and 4 were 2.22, 6.67, 1.34 and 2.55 respectively. For lymphocytes, the average increase treatments 1,2,3 and 4 were -1.91, -8.33, -1.33 and -12.89 respectively. For monocytes, the average increase for treatments 1,2,3 and 4 were 0.76, 1.56, 0.23 and 2.66 respectively. This means that Treatment land commercial anti-inflammatory drug, Aspirin, has comparable inflammatory response in white mice. All p-values are less than 0.05 which means that a significant diferences is present among the four treatments, thereby stating the stem ethanolic extracxts of Basella alba have an anti inflammatory effect in white mice.
