This study determined the total coliform levels and total fecal coliform in bathing area and 100 meters away from the shore line of beaches in southern Iloilo. The four selected beaches namely: Villa, Oton, Tigbauan and Guimbal. The multiple tube fermentation technique (MTFT) was used to identify the presence of total coliform and fecal coliform, in the the water samples. Guimbal has the highest total coliform level at the bathing area followed by Villa, Oton and Tigbauan while Villa has the highest total coliform level 100 meters away from shoreline followed by Guimbal, Oton and Tigbauan. The average total fecal coliform values obtained from all the sampling sites exceeded the acceptable value set by the Department of environment and natural resources (DENR) , indicating fecal contamination of the beaches quality guidelines at 1000 fecal coliform organisms/100ml. This implies that southern Iloilo beaches near the city or not, must have a proper sewage waste disposal as a primary concern for public health and well being of the residents.
