Abstract:

This experiment study aimed to determine the hepaprotctive effect of Ipomea aquatica against alcoholic liver damage on the liver of white mice by observing its morphological and histological charateristics. The study tested (18) white mice which were divided into 3 treatments with each treatment replicated 3 times, with two mice per replicate. Treatment A exposed to the vodka only, Treatment B vodka with Ipomea aquatic in jelly, and treatment C Ipomea aquatic in jelly only. There results showed that in terms of morphological characteristic, the livers in Treatment B and C are both reddish brown in color which is normal, while Treatment A manifested a pale reddish brown in color. Microscopic examination of the slides demonstrate cahnges sush as, steatosis, congestion, inflamation and ballooning degeneration. Steatosis and congestion was found to be prominent histological chnage followed by ballooning degeneration and lastly inflammation with only two slides.
