Abstract:

This study aimed to charaterized the characteristics of himag plant in terms of morphology of its leaves, stem and roots, determined its phytochemical constituents and inhibitory effect of its crude extract on staphylacoccus aureus. Phenols, tannins, flavonoids, saponins and steroids were phytochemicals detected in the crude extract of the plant. Bioassay of different concentrations of the ethanolic extract was performed using an improvised kirby-bauer method. Results showed that 50% concentration of the extract exhibited the highest zone of inhibitons against S. Aureus (M=12.51), thereby indicating that himag has an antibacterial effect against staphylacoccus aureus.
