This study traced and analyzed the institutional development of West Visayas State University since its conversion as West Visayas State University in 1986 to March 2010. This study established objective facts concerning the events happened since 1986 until in 2010 as well as its responses to the challenges through these years; likewise, the contributions of the university to the development of Iloilo, the Western Visayas, and the Philippines as a whole. This historical study employed the descriptive and analytical research design. Most of the historical data used came from both primary and secondary sources-archival materials and in-depth interviews. The collected data were then organized and scientifically analyzed; then, writing the narrative form following the stated framework for interpretation and analysis. This study found out that the conversion of WVSC into a University was by virtue of Presidential Decree 2019 enacted towards the end of Marcos administration. It was also found out that WVSU faculty members were further departmentalized in 1993, the number of existing curricular programs were has been increased, the students come from the upper bracket of the entire studentry in the region in terms of academic capability, and the institution has consistently produced topnotchers. Further, infrastructure and facilities are needed as the number of students increased and as the status of the school changed. Finally, the University has greatly contributed to the development of the Iloilo province, Western Visayas region, and Philippine nation as a whole through the accomplishments of its alumni.
