Abstract:

Abstract This descriptive study looked into the commonly sung Hiligaynon songs in kindergarten classroom. The participants of this study were the 32 public teachers in Province of Iloilo, where the 16 teachers are from rural areas and the other 16 are from the urban areas during school year 2015-2016. A researcher-made checklist on the commonly sung Hiligaynon songs in the kindergarten classroom was the data-gathering tool. To interpret the data, the researchers gathered the instruments. Findings revealed that the commonly sung Hiligaynon songs in Kindergarten classrooms are the following: (a) “Kon Kita Magtililipun”, (b) “Bahay Kubo” and “Ipalakpak ang Kamut Naton”, (c) “Tatlo ka Pato”, (d) “Tindog Pungko ” and (e) “Chikading”. When classified according to theme, the commonly sung Hiligaynon songs in kindergarten classrooms are about people. When classified according to types, folk/ indigenous songs are the top classification or types of song. When classified according to the time of the day, the top Hiligaynon song in kindergarten classrooms sung in the morning is “Kon Kita Magtililipun” and in the afternoon is “Bahay Kubo”. When classified according to location, the top Hiligaynon song in the urban areas is “Ipalakpak ang Kamot Naton” and in the rural areas it is “Bahay Kubo”. When classified according to age, the top Hiligaynon song of the older kindergarten teachers with the age bracket of 35-60 is “Kon Kita Magtililipun” while the commonly sung Hiligaynon songs of the younger kindergarten teachers with the age bracket of 21-34 is “Kon Kita Magtililipun”.
