The purpose of this study was to determine the problems encountered by the elementary transfer students of West Visayas State University-Integrated Laboratory School and their coping mechanisms. This is a phenomenological research which focuses on descriptions of what people experienced in regard to some phenomenon. The subjects of the study were the three teacher-recommended transfer intermediate students of WVSU-ILS. Narrative data were gathered through interviews and respondents’ essays with the intent of developing students’ capabilities. Data were analyzed by transcribing the recorded interview. Problems or challenges met by the transfer students were listed down including their ways of coping them. The most significant problem that were encountered by the students were bullying, difficulty in adjusting in a new environment, and emotional challenges. Result showed that the coping mechanisms used by the respondents were “fight or flight” response and “socialization”.
