Abstract The descriptive research study was conducted to determine the extent of use and the quality of the different types of instructional materials used by the kindergarten preschool student teachers of West Visayas State University. The purposively selected respondents were the 17 kindergarten student teachers for the 1st semester of school year 2015 – 2016. The dependent variables considered were the extent of use and quality of instructional materials while the instructional materials were the independent variable. The data gathering instruments were checklist, and rubrics which were modified and validated. Descriptive statistics employed were frequency, means, rank, and standard deviation. The study revealed that the extent of use of the instructional materials, when classified according to types of instructional materials showed that Visual and Audio – Visual Materials were used in at least 3 – 4 topics, Audio Materials were used in at least 2 – 3 topics. When categorized according to the quality of instructional materials the result revealed that Visual, Audio, and Audio-Visual materials were all of high quality.
