Abstract:

The purpose of the research is to search for an alternatives of producing brooder chicks without antibiotics, by utilizing only organic concoctions as nutrient supplements. The study was conducted on July 25 to August 18, 2015 at WVSU-CC, Calinog, Iloilo. The experimental research method was used in the study assigned in Randomized Complete Block Design using 100 Darag chicks as experimental animals. Each of 5 treatments has 20 birds with 5 birds per replicate. The treatments were: treatment A-water only, treatment B- antibiotics with vitamins, treatment C- fermented fruit juice (FFJ-banana), treatment D-fermented fruit juice (FFJ-pineapple) and treatments E- fermented plant juice (FPJ-banana). Fermented concoctions were added and mixed to daily water requirement of birds. The results of the study revealed that supplementing FFJ-banana showed significant result on the feed consumption of chicks during brooding period of 21 days. Other parameters such as survival rate, feed conversion ratio (FCR), final live weight, gain in weight, and water consumption did not show significant result. It implies that giving of FFJ-banana concoctions during brooding influenced significantly the feed consumption of chicks. It also implies that brooding with the use of water only and organic concoctions are comparable to those birds with antibiotics.
