Abstract:

This study aims to find out the influence of Beneficial Microorganism, use as probiotic drinks in the performance of brooding native Darag chicken. The study started on July 25 to August 18, 2015 at WVSU-CC, Calinog, Iloilo. The Randomized Complete Block Design was used with 5 treatments and 4 replications. The study utilized 100 day-old Darag chicks with 20 birds per treatments and with 5 birds per replicate. Treatments were: water only (A), antibiotics with vitamins(B), lactic acid serum (C), indigenous microorganism(D), and fermented fruit juice-pineapple(E), given daily to birds. The results of the study revealed that probiotic drinks showed significant result in terms of the gain in weight, feed consumption, and feed conversion ratio of chicks during 21 days of brooding period, however, LSD test revealed that treatments A, B, D and E were comparable, but lactic acid serum (C) was significantly different to other 4 treatments. In term of final live-weight, water consumption, and survival rete, the results were not significant. The results implies that giving of probiotic drinks like the lactic acid serum, indigenous microorganism, and fermented fruit juices influenced significantly the performance of chicks during 21 days of brooding period. The result also implies that without the use of antibiotics, the brooder chinks has a good chance of survival which are comparable with those birds given with antibiotics and or probiotics drinks.
