Abstract:

This study determined the environmental awareness and practices of the 335 randomly selected residents along the Upper Magapa-Suague river basin, specifically, its level of environmental awareness and practices, significant differences and relationship, the top five common environmental practices categorized “within the house and in the farm “ using frequency, mean, percentages, ranking, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA and Pearson r. The level of awareness as an entire group and when classified as to sex, and on ages were “very much aware”, except on the age category 51 -65 where the result was” highly aware”. The top five common practices within the house were: 1) nagagamit sang wala takop nga basurahan, 2) wala nagasunod sang segregation practices, recycling/reduce, and reuse program, 3) wala nagapaninlo sang basura/higko sa sulod kag sa gwa sang balay,4) Nagabutang ako sang nagakalailain nga basura sa isa ka basurahan 5) Nagasunog sang laya nga dahon, kahoy, papil, plastic ukon goma, whereas in the farm were: 1)nagagamit masunson sang pesticide/insecticide sa pananom, 2) masunson nga nagagamit sang commercial fertilizer 3) wala nagatanom sang permanente nga tanom sa bulubanglid nga lugar, 4) wala ako nagatanom sang permanente nga mga tanom sa bulubanglid nga lugar 5) wala ako nagaliwat liwat pananom sang kahoy ukon nagailis sang natapas nga kahoy. The level of environmental practices was” moderately good” as entire group, when grouped as to sex both male and female were also “ moderately good”, when grouped as to age all age bracket had also “moderately good” level of practices. In the location category, Barasalon have “good level” of practice while Caraudan, Mangil and Balanac have moderately good level of practices. Those working in the government, private, farmers and other group of occupation were found to have” moderately good” level of practices... No significant difference was found in the level of awareness between males and of residence. There was a significant difference in the level of environmental practices when grouped as to location and occupation, however, when grouped as to age no significant difference existed. Significant relationship between level of awareness and practices was obtained, r = -0.177, p<.05
