Abstract:

This study aimed to develop and use the instructional modules on Selected Topics in Study and Thinking Skills in English for college students. An instructional material development consequently a quasi-experimental design was employed to ascertain the students' achievement in English 102 with the use of instructional modules. The Five stages were followed in the development of the module which include Preparation, Validation, Review, Try-out and Final Revision. After the final revision the instructional module was used by the participants, thirty five (35) first year college students of second semester of SY 2005-2006. The personal variables considered were sex and high school graduated from while the dependent variable was the achievement of students from the pretest and posttest. This modules were administered for seven weeks. The result showed a significant improvement in the use of instructional modules indicated a very significant improvement in teaching English 102. These were reflected by the students' achievement as revealed by their posttest. Thus, by all indicators instructional modules promise great potential and effectivity as an alternative teaching strategy.
